How to draw Matt Patt from Game Theory

Here is a quick tutorial on how to draw Matt Pat from Game Theory. This is a continuation of my previous post so with out further delay here is the tutorial.

I will be using photoshop for the quick sketch and illustrator for the line art and colours.

Fist I start off with doing a quick sketch in light blue. Light blue is just about visible but will not get on the way when I ink the piece (using dark colours can make it more difficult when moving on to the final line art as I find it tends to look similar to black ink.

Next I create the line art. In illustrator I use the blob brush tool (cmd + B) and just draw the outlines on the quick sketch. The quick sketch is then removed as I no longer need it.

With the line art complete I then proceed to adding the colours. There are several ways of doing this in illustrator but I use the blob brush tool.

Now it is just the shadows.

Finally I add the background and we are done.

Once again I must encourage you to check out the game theory channel. If you are a fan of video games you will love some of the information and theories.

Game Theory fan art

I watch a lot of videos on youtube. Currently one of my favourite channels is the Game Theory channel hosted by Mat Pat. Anyway being the geek I am I wanted to show my appreciation for the show by creating some art.

For all those interested in the show here is one of the videos. Enjoy.

Sketchbook work

More quick sketchbook work. Figures and hands seem to be improving. Not much more to say, just got to keep going.

Pose study

Quick posemaniac pose. Some difficult foreshortening. Also trying to get into the habit of drawing hands (still weak at drawing hands)

Quick sketches

So I am on holiday at the moment so here are some very quick sketches. Currently working on a big project but more on that when I get back home.

Testing out some new toys

So the other day I descovered the blob paint brush and the live paint tool in adobe illustrator. Well I found I really like those tools and they have sped me up no end. Here is the result of a quick pose I drew.

The finish is really nice but I still need a bit more extra practice. I should have the weekend free so I will play around more then.

John Singer Sargent study part 3

Moved on to the face now. Still a long way to go but atleast the colours aren't as muddy as I thought they would be.

Learning alot about my work flow through this study. I honestly did not think I would get this far. Must continue. If I can grasp this then I will have made a huge step forward.

John Singer Sargent study part 2

Blocked out some basic shades. Kind of pleased in the direction this is going. Need to add darker shades the the skin but at very least we have somewhat of a 3d form developing.

John Singer Sargent Study

A good artist friend of mine improved his skills by trying to copy specific classic artists. Unfortunately I can only remember one of the artists he studied from (John Singer Sargent) but nether the less I figured that the rest of today (or maybe the week) would be focused on one of his paintings.

This pieces is going to be one of his self portraits. Not really looking forward to his other studies but if it helps me become a stronger artists I will have a go.

I have begun by laying down the base colours and blending the background. No vector shapes were used in the making of this image. To see the original source visit wikipidia an type in John Singer Sargent.

quick sketch

Just a quick sketch. Wanted to try shading and just wanted to mess around.

1 hour manga pose studies

Some quick studies from posemaniacs. Trying to get anatomy correct along with shading. The rough time taken on the set was around 1 hour. Quick gestures were done in around 1 minute followed by line art then colour. I am pleased with the effect but still got a long way to go.

Perspective is still a bit of a bugger so I may focus on that tonight.

Anyway here is the image

Quick sketches

Just some quick sketches.

I need to work on getting neater with my colours :(

Fashion Sketch

This image took me about a day. I needed to practice clothing so I went to next.co.uk and draw one of the models. This was done in photoshop so no vector lines which is out of my comfort zone.
