Female Manga faces

Continueing on the faces theme I have been working on quick doodles of female manga faces. I really suck at hair so I left that part out for now as I would rather save that for a post of it's own.

I have been studying from a book called "The art of drawing manga" Very useful book.

Anyway here is my work.
Think I will work on hair next.

Manga face practice 3/4 view

Just a quick update today. Quick faces as I was struggling with shading. Will try to get substantial content next post.

Will put source of my studies tomorrow.
Lines are looking better. I feel more confident with shading as well. Need to study planes.

jimquisition fan art

Well I have been working on various projects but I have just finished a quick speed paint of Jim Sterling from the Jimquisition. Not too pleased with the sword but I really dont feel like going back and re drawing the whole thing.

As per usual Here is the final piece along with The workings.
Thank God For Jim XD

So I definatly need to work on shading and perspective.

Manga Hands.

AKA I'M BACK BABY!!!
Greetings manga art lovers of all ages.

So after yesterdays mediocre performance I decided to hit the books so to speak. I am yet again  studying my weak areas. Today it is hands. I really need to grow a pair when it comes to attacking this subject. Naturally I used my own hands as ref. the first attempt was ok. Again it fell at the shading part. The more complex second image actually proved to be my more successful rendering.

Areas to work on!
  • shading and planes (they both do hand in hand)
  • Line confidence
Right I best be off and get more drawing done. If I am ever gonna go pro I need to get my ass into gear.

COME ON, HAVE AT YOU!

Messed this one up :(

So I was working on a pin up. Guess my hearts not in it today as I ended up messing this piece up.
It was rushed, sloppy and not to a good standard. It was supposed to be some fan art of Flammy from TOME,

Meh. We all have off days. I belive I will post some studies up tomorrow. I have not done hands in a long time.

Quick Manga Study

Just a quicky today. I wanted to try to draw a background with a character. I never feel confident with my backgrounds so this is an area I need practice with. Here is the link to the ref. http://browse.deviantart.com/resources/stockart/model/women/#/d5asld6

It is definatly an improvement but I think I need to focus on planning my images (well that and hands.) I need to learn to place things in relation to background so everything can blend better.

Hay did you know The Manga Me has a facebook page? You should join us to get updates.

New Manga Pose

So with my last piece I picked up on some weaknesses. The skin I draw is not as eyecatching as I would like it to be. Yesterday I spent trying to work out why. I did a quick study from posemaniacs.com. I opted for a 2 tone flesh render as I have kind of been studying from Various animes.

I also coloured the line art which makes a big difference. I need to work on my backdrops.

BTW The Manga Me is now on facebooks. Click the image bellow to follow us.

Finally I have one important update. We now have a shop. Over the next few weeks I will be filling it with manga and anime goodness. There is even a section on books that will be useful to help you to learn to draw.

Dawn - Game Grumps Challenge

So I was watching a Pokemon play through by the Game Grumps (Egoraptor and Jontron) when the asked for a piece of fan art done. I think this was meant to be a joke but I took it as a challenge.

Here is the episode for all those interested. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ottzIFrdYjE&feature=g-all-u

Anyway here is what I came up with and the work process behind it.

step 1.
Here I done a quick loose plan of what I wanted to do. Low opacity for convenience when it comes to the line art.

Step 2.
Using a hard black brush at 100% opacity I drew the line art. This was done on several layers.
Step 3.
Quick plushie versions of Egoraptor and Jontron. Being Game Grumps I kept the scowl expression. (they both have magikarp training duties XD)
Step 3.
I created a quick black and white version of the image so I could work out the values to make the image stand out. Note that the sky is fractionaly darker than the skin.
Step 4.
Yeay colour! This is just blocking in colour for the next stage.
Step 5.
I added shading to make the image stand out and pop more.
Step 6.
Jontron and Egoraptor plushies coloured. All that is left is to add a few blades of grass and we are done.
Hope you enjoyed the quick manga tutorial. Had alot of fun doing this and I hope to do more. If the Game Grumps are reading this, I beat your challenge!

Manga poses

From last nights quick portrait I realised I needed to work on some things. Line art was nowhere near as good as I wanted it to be but I just wanted to get something up.

Decided to get some poses from posemaniacs done. For quick doodles they turned out ok. Colours are nice and the line art is getting better. I am useing a high opacity hard brush for the line art at around 70%. A soft brush at maximum opacity for the colour but I start my sketches with a quick scribble using a hard brush at around 10% opacity.

This is defo helping me with my line art confidence.

Update and warm up

Greetings all.
Sorry for my long absence, June tends to be busy for me and it spilled into July.

So during my absence I have updated artfreck.com and this site has a new look to it. What do you think?

I have not had much chance for drawing but I did a quick warm up today and I hope to do more complex stuff soon. Here is my latest image. Just a quicky today.
